Art Consultant vs Commissioning an Artist Directly
I am Leah Justyce. Here is the real difference between going through a consultant and briefing a project to me directly.
Enquire About a CommissionWhat an art consultant actually does
An art consultant sources work on your behalf, curating across artists and galleries and usually adding a margin or fee for that service. They sit between you and the artist, which can be useful when a project genuinely needs a wide range of styles pulled together -- but it also means your brief passes through an extra hand before the person actually painting ever sees it.
What commissioning directly looks like
Going direct removes that layer. With Leah Justyce, the brief goes straight to the artist: fill out the commission enquiry form, and I contact you directly to discuss your needs, your palette, and the kind of art you want -- abstract, seascapes, abstract portraits or florals. The palette and decor style of the space are considered for every project, and the art is designed to be part of the interior, not added afterwards to fill it.
The same control, without the margin
The sign-off control a consultant-managed brief gives you is still there going direct -- I create digital mock-up artworks, and the final pieces are painted to match those mock-ups once you approve them. A deposit is paid at that point, not before. The difference is there is no consultant's fee sitting on top of the price.
When a consultant still makes sense
If a project genuinely needs several different artists' styles curated across one space, a consultant's role in assembling that range has real value. For a brief that suits one consistent palette and artist across a project, going direct is usually faster and more cost-effective.
Sizing and price
Artworks are created for your space, to your size -- not a fixed stock size. That might be a single statement piece at 200 x 150 cm, or a triptych of three works each at 150 x 100 cm. As an example of price only, a 100 x 100 cm original acrylic, framed in a float frame and delivered ready to hang, is $3,500 AUD.

Frequently asked questions
What is the real difference between a consultant and going direct?
A consultant sources on your behalf and typically adds a margin. Going direct means briefing the artist straight, with no margin and no intermediary.
Is going direct riskier?
Not with a genuine commission process -- a direct brief conversation, a digital mock-up approved before painting, and a deposit paid at that stage.
When does a consultant still make sense?
When a project needs several artists' styles curated across one space, rather than one consistent artist and palette.
How do I commission directly?
Fill out the commission enquiry form below -- Leah Justyce will contact you directly to discuss your needs and palette.
